Over the past year I have been building a Black-list of Spammer's IP numbers into the E-Mail server. Currently the Black-list is blocking 3 to 4 hundered connections per hour and as a result preventing the delievery of more than a 1,000 SPAM EMails per hour to Online's users. I will be adding more as new Spammers come on-line. Currently our EMail server is delievering more than 6000 piece of Email per day.
Also, this past month (Jan. 2003), I have started filtering the subject line of incoming E-Mail for "BAD or UGLY" words (inapropate words for young minds) to stop some of the Prono spam thats now coming thru. You may have already noticed the absence of this type of Spam. But, this action will not stop all prono spam being delievered. You as a user can setup a filter in your email program to check the body of the Email for "BAD or UGLY" words or other types of spam and then delete it. Check the help section of your Email program for instructions on how to setup filters. Or stop by Online's office for help. I could do this at the server, but will also stop some "GOOD" Email from being delievered.
Also, our server does a very limited virus check for the melissa, X97M, ExploreZIP and the "I Love You" virus. Please let your friends know to not put "I Love You" in the subject line of Email when sending Email to you. It will be deleted at the server.
