Our First House
Grady County Habitat for Humanity, formed June 1, 2000, is proud to announce the completion of it first house. Habitat partnered with Thelma Garrison, and her two "Grans", Mario and Sergio to provide them with simple, decent, and affordable housing.
The 1100 square foot home was completed in the spring of
2001, and is located on Belle Alley in Cairo.

Our Second Family

The Family Selection Committee, chaired by Lillie Jackson, has selected a second Grady County family to become a Habitat partner. J.R. and Charlie Mae Broomfield (Calvary) and their family are our new partners. The Broomfield family consists of three adults and 5 children. Three of the children, now under the care of the Broomfields, came to them when one of their daughters died in an automobile accident. Thanks to the City of Cairo, a lot has been donated to build them a new house in the city. Habitat is seeking to find someone to donate 1/4-1/2 acre in Calvary for the Broomfields as they would like to remain Calvary community residents and be closer to kin.

Local Benefactor

An anonymous and generous Grady County benefactor has offered to match funds with Habitat up to $20,000 for the building of the Broomfield home. This means that for each dollar that is donated by you, someone else will match your donation. This generosity is enormous encouragement to all involved, and is a tribute to the character of those living in our fine county.

Thanks Bob !

Many thanks to Bob Hopkins, City Manager of Cairo and Vice President of Grady County Habitat for Humanity, and his councilman for donating building lots for our affiliate. It is this kind of partnership and cooperation that will allow Habitats all over the world to continue to end the problems of sub-standard housing.
Again, thanks to the City of Cairo, Georgia.

Just 1/4-1/2 Acre

J.R. and Charlie Mae Broomfield are excited about partnering with Habitat and the new home that will be realized from this effort. Yet, they have been residents of the Calvary Community, and have family there that needs their attention. Although they would be proud to move to the city of Cairo, they think staying in Calvary would be ideal. If you have 1/4-1/2 of an acre or more that you would be willing to donate, tax free, please contact our office.
