Mission
Grady County Habitat for Humanity seeks to bring together people from all walks of life to put their faith into action through a ministry of building simple, decent, secure, owner-occupied housing with our citizens in need. The ministry is financed through private donations and by utilizing volunteer labor. It is a nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from Grady County by partnering with low-income families to build adequate, affordable housing that is sold without profit or interest.

Who is eligible for Habitat for Humanity housing?

Habitat for Humanity selects families whose present homes are inadequate. Potential partner families must also show they are willing and able to become homeowners. Habitat for Humanity's goal is to assist families who find themselves caught in the position where the lack of truly affordable housing is a barrier to their becoming independent.
The selection of families who will purchase homes from Grady County Habitat for Humanity will be done by the Family Selection Committee and the Board of Directors using four criteria:

1. need for adequate shelter
2. ability to pay
3. willingness to partner
4. residence in Grady County.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To qualify, families must:

1) Have a housing need.
Examples: a leaky roof, no indoor plumbing, poor heating, exposed electrical wires, overcrowding, spending over 50% of income for rent, and unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions.

2) Have minimum steady income so that they can make their payments on the house.

3) Be willing to "partner" by completing 300 hours of sweat equity and attending training classes. It is expected that hours of sweat equity will be performed before construction begins on the family's house and that all hours of sweat equity will be performed prior to the family moving into the house. Sweat equity hours can be earned by working in the office, other Habitat Affiliates, other help agencies in Grady County, attending monthly training classes, and construction activity.

4) Be a resident of Grady County for a period of at least 12 months or work in Grady County for the last two years.

Grady County Habitat does not discriminate on any basis including race, sex, age, disability, religion, marital status, national origin, or because all or a portion of a family's income
is received from any public assistance program.
